MEET CARL WILLIAMS
Retired US Air Force, Retired IBM Software Developer, Active Disaster Recovery Coordinator. Since the 2013 announcement that Tokyo won host city for the 2020 Olympic Summer Games, Carl Williams has served as founder and director of Gold Medal Kids, a nonprofit humanitarian organization based on sports mentoring. Gold Medal Kids, established in Dallas, Texas and Tokyo Japan and funded entirely with private support, provides material assistance to locally run charity programs around the world and in the U.S. Since the first days after the Great Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, Williams has provided cash grants and furnished essential advisory, equipment, and supplies to support services of every component of disaster response, relief and recovery in Japan. While in Japan as a disaster coordinator, Williams was the sole emergency manager and representative of Direct Relief International, the largest nonprofit charitable medicines organization in the USA. During his tenure with Direct Relief, the organization was named one of America’s Best 100 Charities by Worth magazine, was rated by Forbes as being 99 percent efficient and won the Peter F. Drucker Foundation’s award for Nonprofit Innovation.
Williams directed the establishment of greater than 250 relief programs across three Japanese prefectures affected by the disaster while managing millions of dollars in donations
